About Me

My Story

Hello, I'm Alyssa Hanofee (farm manager). Over the past decade, I've passionately cultivated my love for the land. My farming experience began with the World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) program, which opened my eyes to the profound connections between people and the land they steward. This experience laid the foundation for my deep commitment to sustainable agriculture and land conservation.

Determined to contribute to the preservation of our natural resources, I joined the Nevada Conservation Corps, collaborating with the BLM and the Forest Service. These experiences in the arid landscapes of Nevada only fueled my passion for sustainable land management and conservation.

In 2014, I found my way to the charming town of Niwot, Colorado, where I had the privilege of working with the City of Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks Department for four years. In this role, I collaborated closely with local ranchers and small-scale farmers - entrusted with overseeing management projects and ensuring landowners were equipped with the best management practices for sustainability and land conservation.

I further expanded my expertise during my tenure at the USDA's Agricultural Research Service in Fort Collins, Colorado. There, I delved into groundbreaking research and presented my findings at the Denver Energy Summit, in collaboration with the US Department of Energy. My work focused on improving root-soil function to reduce carbon concentrations without compromising agricultural yields. I explored the development of root-focused phenotypes through breeding, transgenes, and gene editing methods to enhance root anatomy for carbon sequestration.

In 2023, I  graduated from Colorado State University as a "non-traditional student" earning my degree in Crop and Soil Science with a concentration in Soil Restoration and Conservation.

Now, I'm excited to share my journey, knowledge, and passion for sustainable farming and land conservation with you. Welcome to Move Mountains Market, where we'll explore the beauty of the land. Join me as I continue to learn, grow, and contribute to the world of farming and conservation. Together, we can make a positive impact on the land we love.

I look forward to connecting with fellow enthusiasts, farmers, and conservationists on this incredible journey.
